Personal. Business.
Farm. Rental.

Individual 1040s, Schedule C businesses, Schedule F farms, Schedule E rentals, and the Idaho state returns that go with them. E-filed, reviewed with you, and explained in plain language.

The full range of small-business and family returns.

Four categories cover the vast majority of our tax work. Most clients have one; plenty have two or three.

01 · Individual · Form 1040

Personal returns.

W-2 income, interest and dividends, retirement distributions, itemized deductions, child-related credits, education credits, HSA and IRA contributions. Idaho state Form 40 or 43 included.

02 · Business · Schedule C

Sole proprietors and single-member LLCs.

Business income, operating expenses, depreciation, home office, self-employment tax, estimated tax planning. Filed with your personal 1040, or standalone if you've incorporated.

03 · Farm · Schedule F

Farms and ranches.

Livestock sales, crop income, agricultural program payments, crop insurance proceeds, farm expenses, depreciation on equipment. Schedule F is a specialty for us and has been for decades.

04 · Rental · Schedule E

Rental property owners.

Residential and commercial rental income, operating expenses, depreciation, passive activity loss rules. Whether you own one rental or a small portfolio, the reporting is done correctly.

05 · Business Entities

Partnerships and S-corps.

Form 1065 partnership returns with K-1s. Form 1120-S S-corporation returns with K-1s. Plus the personal returns of the owners, if you want both handled together.

06 · Amended Returns & Back Taxes

Cleaning up the past.

Form 1040-X amended returns, multi-year catch-up filings, responses to IRS letters, and navigating what happens when returns went un-filed. Not a crisis — a project we've done many times.

Tax prep by someone who already knows you.

The biggest differentiator HBS offers on tax work isn't software or price — it's that we prepare returns for people whose books and payroll we've been keeping all year. By the time tax season arrives, we already know your income, your deductions, and the moves you made in October that affect the outcome.

For new clients who haven't yet combined services, we bring the same discipline to tax prep on its own. You'll send us source documents through our secure portal, complete an intake form online, and we'll walk through the finished return with you before e-filing.

Either way, the goal is a return that's correct, defensible, and doesn't surprise you.

  • E-filed through Drake Tax

Professional tax software with direct IRS and Idaho State e-filing. Paper returns only by request.

  • Federal & Idaho state included

Both returns prepared and filed. Multi-state returns available for clients with income in other states.

  • Review meeting before filing

We walk through the return with you before you sign Form 8879. Questions get answered; surprises are avoided.

  • Secure intake & document exchange

Online intake forms for the structured data; a secure portal for source documents and signatures. Sensitive data handled correctly.

  • Year-round availability

IRS letters and questions don't only arrive in March. We respond to our tax clients year-round.

From intake to filed return.

The path is the same for every return type — just with different documents at step two.

STEP 01

Complete Your Intake

Personal Data Sheet online. Returning clients see last year's info carried over; new clients start fresh. Ten to fifteen minutes.

STEP 02

Get Your Documents to Us

W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, mortgage interest statements, property tax records — uploaded, dropped off, or mailed in. Whatever fits your situation.

STEP 03

We Prepare

We review, prepare the return, check our work, and call with questions. Most returns are ready to review within two to three weeks.

STEP 04

Review & E-File

Walk through the return together, sign Form 8879 electronically, and we e-file to the IRS and Idaho. Refund or balance due handled.

Filing the Personal Data Sheet online is new this year

We're retiring the paper Personal Data Sheet. Returning clients will find last year's stable data (names, addresses, dependents, occupations) already filled in — update what's changed and submit. New clients start fresh. Sensitive items like Social Security numbers and bank account information are collected through the secure document portal, not through a public web form.

How we quote tax preparation.

Tax prep is priced by the complexity and time the return requires. A simple 1040 with a W-2 and a few interest statements is a different job than an S-corp return with a K-1 flowing to the owner's personal return plus a Schedule E for a rental property.

We quote at the start of the engagement based on what you tell us about your situation. If something shows up during preparation that materially changes the scope, we call you before we change anything.

Clients who also use HBS for bookkeeping or payroll see meaningfully lower tax-prep pricing, because the books are already clean when we start.

Ask about a quote

What affects a tax-prep quote

  • Filing status and number of dependents
  • Which schedules apply (C, E, F, and others)
  • Rental properties and their count
  • Multi-state filing requirements
  • Whether itemizing or taking the standard deduction
  • Any K-1s from partnerships or S-corps
  • Whether we're also preparing the related business entity return

Quotes are firm — not estimates that creep upward during preparation.

Tax prep is better with bookkeeping and payroll attached.

When the same team that prepares your return has been keeping your books all year, nothing gets missed.
